Species Spotlight: Iribots

Composition

Iribots are a fascinating race of sentient robots, with squid-like appendages beneath a large central dome of super-hardened glass.

Whilst many can mistake the dome for an iribot’s head, their actual central processing unit, or brain, is located in the housing the join the dome to the rest of their body. The dome instead seems to act as an insulated chamber for channelling Chaos. This is what helps the iribots access potent arcane abilities, and is also understood to be what grants them their sight. Iribot’s possess what has been referred to as ‘Arcane Sight’, an omnidirectional sight in all directions that cannot seem to be hindered.

One of the iribot’s downfalls in the modern galaxy is their lack of hands, or other means to navigate intricate objects. This is made up for however with their many tentacle-like arms, that are remarkably flexible and possess good grip strength.

Whilst iribots can produce and mimic audible speech, their preferred method of communication is through telepathy, again thought to be granted to them thanks to their arcane chamber.

Like most droids, iribots do not seem to expire naturally, nor do they have a discernible age of maturity.

Origin Theories

The origin of the iribots is one of the galaxy’s great mysteries. It is thought that they must surely be a creation of a once dead stellar empire. This should be easy to learn, with some iribots from the time period potentially still surviving to this day. However, despite their own vast personal memory banks, and those of their unique home planet of Ipor Primus, no data exists of such things.

Organisation

Iribots are happy to live migratory lives, in the company of other species, so they do not tend to travel together in any notable capacity.

Whilst Iribots do technically have a stellar empire with owned space, this is only a small amount of space around their homeworld of Ipor Primus. The Iribot Interface, as they are known, do not participate in recognisable politics, only preserving their homeworld and the hyperlanes that lead to it. The Iribot Interface does not even seem to have a consistent leader, with a constantly rotating cast of speakers residing on Ipor Primus speaking on behalf of their kind.

It has been mentioned that Ipor Primus is a unique homeworld. This is due to its function and design. Encased in metal, the world is thought to be a kind of planetary computing system, which stores enormous amounts of data. While many in the galaxy salivate at the scientific potential of such a thing, the Iribots do not use it for such things. Many Iribots will make regular journeys back to Ipor Primus, where they will interface with the planet. When iribots interface in such a way, they are thought to have vivid and overstimulating sensory experiences not unlike a transcendent drug trip. Iribots struggle to verbalise what this experience is truly like, and what they may see, so much of the galaxy is left as curious onlookers.

Shared Values/Beliefs

Iribots often tend to be good natured, wanting to help others, however can be led astray by naivety. While they tend to be ‘good’ natured, they do not seem to have a strong moral or ideological interpretation of good and evil, merely a tendency to help those that seem in need. This can lead to situations in which iribots can work with criminal organisations or with other nefarious parties, while thinking they are helping.

Iribots are not stupid however, they are open-minded and value debate, so can easily learn the conventional rights and wrongs of the galaxy, provided they have a logical foundation.

Population Centres

Ipor Primus (System: Ipor) - An enormous world cased in metal, Ipor Primus is thought to be a kind of planetary computing system capable of storing and processing unfathomable amounts of data.
